Certain Antibiotics Can Harm Tendons

The FDA has issued a call for “black box” warnings to be placed on certain antibiotics about the risk that they may cause tendonitis and ruptured tendons.

The antibiotics affected are those in the fluoroquinolone family, including Bayer’s Cipro (generic name ciprofloxacin) and Avelox, Johnson & Johnson’s Floxin (generic name ofloxacin) and Levaquin, Depomed’s Proquin XR, Merck’s Noroxin and Oscient’s Factive.

These drugs already carry warning labels about tendons risks, but Edward Cox, FDA director of the microbial products office, said that “the FDA continues to receive a considerable number of reports of tendon-related adverse events. The FDA believes that these new labeling changes will better inform health-care providers and patients about the risk.”

The black box warning is the strongest warning that the FDA can place on a drug before recalling it from the market.

The nonprofit consumer advocacy group Public Citizen sued the FDA in 2006 to demand a black box warning, and additionally directly notified doctors about the risk of tendon damage. The group had been urging the agency to issue such a warning since 1996.

Public Citizen cited government data showing 262 reports of ruptured tendons, 258 reports of tendonitis and 274 reports of other dependent problems as of late 2005 in those who had taken the drugs. A further 100 problems have reported since then, the group said.

The FDA concluded that the risk of tendon ruptures is three to four times higher in those who take the antibiotics than those they do not. Most at risk are patients over the age of 60, people using steroid therapy and those who have undergone certain organ transplants.

Anyone on fluoroquinolones who experiences tendon pain is advised to immediately stop taking the antibiotics and exercising and contact the doctor immediately. Most problems occur in the Achilles’ tendon, but ruptures are also known in the biceps, hands, shoulders and elsewhere.

Hairspsray Chemicals Cause Birth Defects in Boys

A LINK between hairspray and a genital defect in boys has been uncovered by scientists. Reported by British online newspaper, Telegraph, researchers found women exposed to hairspray in the workplace during early pregnancy more than double their chances of giving birth to a son with hypospadias, the urinary opening of the penis is found in the under side of the penis instead of at the tip.  It normally affects one in 250 boys in the UK. Though it can be corrected by surgery before a boy’s first birthday, more severe cases can lead to urinary, sexual and fertility problems.

Phthalates, a group of hormone-disrupting hairspray chemicals are believed to be responsible. The same study, by London’s Imperial College, showed folic acid reduced the risk. Estrogen-like compound tends to destroy folic acid in animal tissues.  An increased risk was only seen in women whose jobs led to high exposure to hairspray, such as hairdressers, beauty therapists, researchers and factory staff.

Organic and Sustainable Farmers Can Feed the World

The key argument that biotech companies used to defend the development of their technologies of tempering with Mother Nature with altering the basic genetic makeup of food crops is to increase yields to feed the growing world population.  A basic question that is often asked about ecological agriculture, including organic agriculture, is whether it can be productive enough to meet the world’s food needs. While many agree that ecological agriculture is desirable from an environmental and social point of view, there remain fears that ecological and organic agriculture produce low yields.

A recent study reports evidence to demystify the productivity debate and demonstrate that ecological agriculture is indeed productive, especially so in developing countries. This study examined a global dataset of 293 examples and estimated the average yield ratio (organic : non-organic) of different food categories for the developed and developing world. For most of the food categories examined, they found that the average yield ratio was slightly less than 1.0 for studies in the developed world, but more than 1.0 for studies in developing countries.

On average, in developed countries, organic systems produce 92% of the yield produced by conventional agriculture. In developing countries, however, organic systems produce 80% more than conventional farms.

With the average yield ratios, the researchers then modeled the global food supply that could be grown organically on the current agricultural land base. They found that organic methods could hypothetically produce enough food on a global per capita basis to sustain the current human population, and potentially an even larger population, without putting more farmland into production.   In addition, contrary to fears that there are insufficient quantities of organically acceptable fertilizers, the study suggests that leguminous cover crops could fix enough nitrogen to replace the amount of synthetic fertilizer currently in use.  This model suggests that organic agriculture could potentially provide enough food globally, but without the negative environmental impacts of conventional agriculture

My comment: That is without all that chemicals added to the soil and food? Wow! There we thought we could save these 3rd world people from starving with our Frankinfoods. They can do that better than we can in our highly developed country with this time-tested methods of producing foods like our ancestors did. How about leave these people to farm the ways they know how, use our foreign aide to purchase land and let the indigenous people grow their own food. If we really want to help them instead of using these starving people as window dressing or a sorry excuse to dump our industrial agricultural surpluses in guises as foreign aide. Decimating their local food production by robbing their land by the multinational corporations. How about helping them to regain their independence?   Have them pay rent for the land and then help them pay for the land with their production, and eventually become self-reliant and free again?  Or it is too much for the central-planning-socialistic-utopians to allow that to happen?  Is it too hard to think that people can be self-reliant, self-sustaining without government planning, regulating and handouts?

The Vaccine Cover-Up

This is the information written for the video interview of Robert Kennedy who talks about the cover up regarding vaccines and Autism.  Before you submit your baby to be vaccinated, should you know more about the risks of vaccination first?

“In June 2000, a group of top government scientists and health officials gathered for a meeting at the isolated Simpsonwood conference center in Norcross, Georgia. Convened by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the meeting was held at this Methodist retreat center, nestled in wooded farmland next to the Chattahoochee River, to ensure complete secrecy. The agency had issued no public announcement of the session — only private invitations to fifty-two attendees. There were high-level officials from the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration, the top vaccine specialist from the World Health Organization in Geneva and representatives of every major vaccine manufacturer, including GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Wyeth and Aventis Pasteur. All of the scientific data under discussion, CDC officials repeatedly reminded the participants, was strictly “embargoed.” There would be no making photocopies of documents, no taking papers with them when they left.”

“The federal officials and industry representatives had assembled to discuss a disturbing new study that raised alarming questions about the safety of a host of common childhood vaccines administered to infants and young children. According to a CDC epidemiologist named Tom Verstraeten, who had analyzed the agency’s massive database containing the medical records of 100,000 children, a mercury-based preservative in the vaccines — thimerosal — appeared to be responsible for a dramatic increase in autism and a host of other neurological disorders among children. “I was actually stunned by what I saw,” Verstraeten told those assembled at Simpsonwood, citing the staggering number of earlier studies that indicate a link between thimerosal and speech delays, attention-deficit disorder, hyperactivity and autism. Since 1991, when the CDC and the FDA had recommended that three additional vaccines laced with the preservative be given to extremely young infants — in one case, within hours of birth — the estimated number of cases of autism had increased fifteenfold, from one in every 2,500 children to one in 166 children.

Soy is not for Boys

There’s a slow poison out there that’s severely damaging our children and threatening to tear apart the fabric of our lives. The ironic part is, it’s a “health food,” one of our most popular item in health food stores.  It is used to feed babies, feed animals, and feed ourselves.  This dangerous food–soy, is found in practically all processed foods, pet food, and animal feed.  They are all over the place. You can hardly escape from them if you eat processed food regularly.  Another reason why we need to radically change our diet. Not only eating organic, unprocessed foods,  but watch out for the ubiquitous soy as well.  The following links to a well researched articles by James Rutz will make you outraged at how this garbage is being sold as something good for us by the soy industry under the watchful eyes of the FDA.

Males of all species are becoming more female

Yet another reason to eat only organic foods.  A recent study show that males of all species on our planet is becoming more female due to the explosive increase in endocrine disrupting chemicals in our environment.  I guess those who believe that we have to reduce our reproductive rate to reduce population growth can breath a sign of relief. They don’ t have to loss a night of sleep anymore, overpopulation is taken care of by our own doing–self-indoxication.  Unfortunately, we have to take many of our innocent fellow sexually reproducing mammals species with us.  One day when all the males animals are gone, so will the females. Only fish, reptiles and insects with the ability to reproduce asexually or turning from female to male as needed will take over the earth again.  There will be no more sexual revolution, no more male and female, sad to say, no more humans.  I hope this will not be the case, let’s get rid of all these gender-bending chemicals before it is too late.

Got “Raw” Milk?

This is quoted from an article online, “BRA, Italy — Next to the portico in Bra’s Piazza XX Septembre, sits a stainless steel refrigerated vending machine that’s quite popular with the locals. A one Euro coin and a push of the start button activates a pure white flow. Within seconds the customer’s bottle is brimming with a liter of latte crude (raw milk).”  Read the article:  Assure raw milk’s benefits.  This article talks about the return of raw milk and it growing popularity all over the world. We need to find out for ourselves how healthful raw milk is inspite of the ignorant “experts” advise we hear from public health officials that it is deathly dangerous.  How can something that nourished out ancestors for thousands of years became dangerous just a hundred years ago and required heat treatment to make it safe?  We don’t heat treat our mother’s milk, do we? We might kill some of the microorganisms in raw milk especially if it is coming from a unhealthy cow, but it destroys many beneficial factors in the process.  The risk is far out weight the costs to drink pasteurized milk.  Here are few more resouces to get learn more about raw milk on the internet video sites.

Forget the Flu Shot

Health officials say that every winter 5–20 percent of the population catches the flu, 200,000 people are hospitalized, and 36,000 people will die from it. The National Vital Statistics Reports compiled by the CDC show that only 1,138 deaths a year occur due to influenza alone, and more than 34,000 of the “36,000″ flu deaths are what officials estimate are “influenza-associated” pneumonic and cardiovascular deaths.

A cardiac surgeon and Professor of Surgery at the University of Washington recommends avoiding the flu shot and taking vitamin D instead. Donald Miller, MD, says “Seventy percent of doctors do not get a flu shot.”  Read the article: http://ecochildsplay.com

Globalization–The New Rulers of the World

‘Global economy,’ a modern Orwellian term is quite familiar to our daily lingual. On the surface, it means instant financial trading, mobile phones, McDonald’s, Starbucks, holidays booked on the net. Beneath this glossy facade, it is the globalization of poverty, a world where most human beings never to have a chance to make a cell phone call and live on less than two dollars a day, where 6,000 children die every day from diarrhea because most have no access to clean water. Where our affluence in the west is externalized upon the sweat and tears of laborers, many of them are children, in poor countries.  They are the ones who are paying for the cost of our luxurous debt-induced (credit cards) living which will never be repay. Or will we?

The myths of globalization have been incorporated into much of our everyday language. “Thinking globally” and “the global economy” are part of a jargon that assumes we are all part of one big global village, where national borders and national identities no longer matter. But what is globalization? And where is this global village?

More and more people across the globe are discovering the threats posed by globalization. This has given rise to the Global Justice Movement, with its regular social forums, which are a new, dynamic form of true internationalism.

The protestors come from many different countries and many different backgrounds, but they are united by one aim: to ensure that globalization works in the interests of all of the world’s people, not just a fortunate few. To know more about the thread of globalizationand what we can do to change it :
