Sources for Truly Raw Almonds

The USDA will required almond growers and processors in California to pasteurized almonds by Sept 1, 2007, to avoid foodborne illness. The FDA will allow the growers to call the pasteurized almonds “raw”. (there shows the ignorance of the food regulators and how far removed they are from nature). We. as consumers, will have no way to find out if the almonds we get at the whole food type markets are truly raw. Now, we can get real raw almonds directly from the growers.  Almonds should be soaked before consumption to maximize nutrition and enzymes content. But pasteurized almonds are dead, will not sprout and will not increase enzymes or vitamin C with soaking.  We should consume real raw almonds only.

Here are the links to raw almond growers:

“Tree share” for unpasteurized almonds: http://www.localforage.com/local_forage/2007/07/tree-share-for-.html

And you can buy online directly from the grower- totally unpasteurized. The law refers to “handlers”, growers can sell their own nuts. http://www.almonds-from-california.com/cgi-bin/ppcart/ppcart.pl?details&californiaalmonds&1160270493&Nonpareil+Variety

They also can sell small quantities of raw, unpasteurized almonds direct to customers at farm stands or at certified California farmers markets, but can face penalties if they are caught selling more than 100 pounds a day to  any one person.”

More Thought on Dr. Ron Paul’s Candidacy

I was heartened that when my 17-year-old daughter told me about her discussion with some of her liberal friends that she felt strongly that Dr. Ron Paul is what she wants to have for our president in 2008.  That shows that she is taking part in the uniquely democratic American political process.  She is reading and thinking through the issues and listening to the candidates’ opinion.  She was researching on her own online instead of listening to the one-minute sound bite on the mindless network news.

That gives me hope that our rising generation of young people is actively thinking people who will not be led by propaganda sprouted on TV.  Pay attention to the real issues facing Americans today, run away deficit spending, escalating national debt, uncontrollable health care expenditures and looming trend of horrific chronic diseases.  The time-honored Christian principles of our founding fathers, adheres by Dr. Ron Paul–self reliance, personal accountability, thrift and faithful stand on the principle of peace.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that is principle-centered. I sincerely hope that his message will be heard by all.  He is the only candidate that I think George Washington and Benjamin Franklin would vote for in the 2008 election.

How to make compost using worms

Wonder how we can reduce the volume of garbage going into our ever expanding landfills?  We are dumping millions of tons of organic matter into landfills that it is creating huge environmental problems.  If these organic matter can go back into the land, it can turn back into food again or growing healthier trees and shrubs.  Here is a great idea, keep a worm composter in your living space.  Worms can be kept in worm bins in small city apartment to large estates.  The Town restaurant in Honolulu employed the worms to help reduce all these organic waste.  People living in New York City can keep worm bins to make compost to help feed the city trees. I bet they, the trees  love it.  If you keep a backyard garden, the compost will be great for the new generation of vegetables and flowers.

Watch this video and find what you can do to help keep our world cleaner.

FDA Approval Does Not Prove Safety for Drugs

When it comes to drugs, Americans rely on the FDA to make sure that the drugs we are being prescribed to are safe and effective.  Only drugs that are approved by the FDA is legally sold here.  The assumption that approved drugs are safe and effective is not warranted. Many drugs that were approved got pulled from the market after people were either killed or harmed. Examples such as Vioxx, Phenphan, Baycol.  A popular drug is now under scrutiny—Avandia—a popular diabetes drug.

There is really very little that drugs can offer. We spent hundreds of billions of dollars on these useless chemicals every year, yet we are place at 37th in our quality of health in the world.  Money really can’t buy everything when it comes to health.  The most expansive drugs or procedures do not guarantee the quality of health.  Health is a personal responsibility, it is what we do every day—diet, exercise, spend time with loved ones, avoid harmful substances and activities.  No drug, surgery, radiation, lab tests can bring about health. Health only comes by obeying the laws of nature.

Now the FDA had passed a law that will severely limit our access to safe natural health products.  In the following video which was done before the passing of the law.  It is just an added evidence to prove the FDA will do anything to boost Big Pharma profits.  It is more important that we pay increased attention to the quality of our food. Put in a backyard garden. If you live in rural area, start producing more food to share with your community at a farmer’s market or start a produce CSA (community supported agriculture). Reduce our reliance on fossil fuel, get more exercise. Can we think of what we can do to improve our health and avoid the consumption of disease care services?

You Should Avoid Factory-Farmed, Pasteurized Milk

Commerical, factory-farmed, pasteurized milk is a deadly poison. I can’t agree more.  99% of the milk on the market is a shadow of the life supporting food–raw milk–that our ancestors used to drink.  The modern-day dairy farms not only damaging the cows, it is degrading to the farmers who are operating them.  The bucolic pictures of cows feeding on a pasture is not a reality in confinement dairy farms today. These cows hardly ever step on fresh grass let alone eating it.  this abuse let to increase sickness and heavy reliance on antibiotics in addition to their rations of growth hormones to boost milk production.  Sick animals don’t produce healthy milk, is this concept hard the fathom?  To add insults to injuries, the milk is treated with heat to render them practically ingestible.

Up until the 1920s’, Americans were drinking raw milk. In fact, humans were drinking raw milk for the rest of our existance until we decided that this natural food is “dangerous” that we have to cook it (destroys the inherent goodness by killing its enzymes, immune factors, and heat sensitive nutrients).  We owe our existance to the food and diet wisdom of our ancestors who ate only natural foods.  We need to look back in order to go forward.

Why do we need to embrace alternative health care?

Listen to this interview with Dr. Julian Whitaker. His has been championing alternative health care for decades, a tireless crusader against medical abuse.  I have been using nutrition and chiropractic care for myself and my family’s health care. I am glad that I have made the change twenty years ago and enjoy the benefits of it. It is so important that we take a closer look at main stream medicine, the disaster of health care we are facing and learn a different way to take care of our health, especially our children’s.

Key to Long Life–Lower Brain Insulin

A recent study showed if the brain insulin is reduced, results in longer life span in genetic altered mice that lacked a certain key gene that affects insulin signaling in the brain.  Although there is no drug to produce this effect human, research suggested that good, old-fashioned diet and exercise might do the same thing for human.  That points back to our grandmother’s admonition: eat your vegetables and get out and play more.  This may be the key to reduce the obesity epidemic in children and adults today.
